Hotel Essenza Olbia

The Surroundings

The Hotel Essenza is located in a strategic position to combine beach and city holidays. In fact, you will be just a few steps away from the historic center of Olbia and just a few minutes from the wonderful beaches of the Gulf of Olbia and the Costa Smeralda. You can then go on an excursion to Tavolara Island or discover the archaeological sites nearby.

Olbia

This city will welcome you to Gallura and will be your starting point for an exciting journey around north-east Sardinia.

You can take a walk in the historic centre of Olbia and visit the Basilica of San Simplicio and the necropolis museum. The Baroque Church of San Paolo deserves a visit, too, in order to admire the majolica of its dome.

The beach of Pittulongu , also known as La Playa, is the city inhabitants’ favourite beach, but it is not the only one there is. You can also bathe in the crystal clear waters of Lo Squalo, il Pelicano and Mare e Rocce, up to Bados.

Costa Smeralda

Takes its name from the colour of the sea but is also known throughout the world for its nightlife, the small squares with the shops of exclusive brands for night shopping and famous places like Cala di Volpe or Liscia di Vacca.

Upon arrival you will be welcomed by two granite rocks, characteristic of the whole area and your eyes will be lost among the white buildings perfectly inserted in the typical Mediterranean scrub. The Church of Stella Maris, designed by Michele Busiri Vici, is worth a visit.

Romazzino, Pitrizza, Liscia Ruja will also fascinate you, and looking at the horizon you will see the island of the Capuchins, the island of Mortorio and other small strips of land.

Tavolara Island

Tavolara is nothing other than a mountain of limestone and granite that rises from the sea; it is 560 meters high. This islet is actually the cornerstone of the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara-Punta Coda Cavallo , which extends for 76 kilometres from Loiri Porto San Paolo up to San Teodoro.

The Marina di Tavolara area is characterized by coves, crystal-clear sea and inlets that are rich in Mediterranean maquis shrubland. It also features the Isola Piana, the red porphyry islets of Molara and Molarotto and other tiny strips of land that we recommend exploring by boat trip or by snorkelling.

In July, we recommend the International Film Festival (A night in Italy), which takes place in an exclusive and evocative setting.

Archaeological Sites

Around Olbia you will find numerous sites where you can spend a day dedicated to the history of the area: nuraghi, tombs of the giants and sacred wells. The Tomb of the Giants of Su Monte e S’Ape is worth a visit, located a few steps away from the nuraghe Casteddu and the Castle of Pedres.

The nuraghe Riu Molinu is also very fascinating due to the wide view and the breathtaking panorama because it rises right on the top of the Su Casteddu hill.

Arriving at the Sacred Well of Sa Testa, instead, you will have in front a large circular courtyard connected to an atrium. From a staircase of 17 steps one reaches the tholos chamber of the well.

You can’t miss the Necropolis of San Simplicio, the museum of Olbia.
